Manhattan Language offers a variety of courses in all levels from beginner to advanced. Each of our American English courses includes both an integrated skills class and conversation skills class. In integrated skills class you will work on the grammar, listening, reading and writing skills you will need to advance to the next level. The conversation skills class develops your speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary and idiom skills through a combination of small group work and discussions.

Speaking & Pronunciation |
| Focus on clear speech and fluency appropriate for your level. You will learn vocabulary and idioms while practicing your speaking and pronunciation skills.

Business Communication |
| For high intermediate level students, this course focuses on all aspects of business English including vocabulary, presentations, job interview skills, resume writing, and meetings. Learn business related idioms and terms and improve your business writing skills. |
English & the Movies |
Improve your English skills in a unique and interesting way. Study vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and listening by analyzing and discussing movies that you watch in class. You will also improve your writing skills by writing reviews of the movies you watch. Some examples are:

English Through Art |
| New York City is rich in both classical and modern art. In this class you will learn about famous artists and artistic movements, study related vocabulary, create your own art, discuss and critique art, and visit museums around the city. Explore the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum, the New Museum of Contemporary Art and learn English at the same time! |
The History of American Music |
| Historically, the United States is a mix of cultures and influences from around the world. This class focuses on teaching students how the history of the U.S. has influenced music development in this country. Topics covered are bluegrass, country, jazz, rock and roll, and hip hop. |
Manhattan Language Book Club |
| One of the best ways to improve your vocabulary and fluency in English is by reading. For intermediate level students and higher, in this class you will practice your reading and analytical skills, as well as learn literary terms and new vocabulary and idioms. Every class includes reading and discussion of non-fiction short stories and novels. |
Pop Culture & New York City |
| Considered to be the capital of the world, New York City is a place where fads and fashions are constantly changing and evolving. In this class you will learn about popular American culture (including art, music and fashion) and also visit galleries, go to concerts, see films and experience real-world English in the city that never sleeps! |
Pre-TOEFL |
This class is for intermediate level students who intend to prepare for the TOEFL exam, but need to improve the four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) before taking the TOEFL test preparation class.

Classes include study of speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Elective options include Business Communication, English through American Film, Speaking & Pronunciation, English through Art and TOEFL Test Preparation.
All students can join the Manhattan Language Activity Program. There is always something to do and somewhere to explore in New York City. That¡¯s why Manhattan Language offers a full schedule of teacher-led social activities in which students can experience New York City, practice their English skills and make friends from other countries. We also offer bonus classes every Friday. Each week is another chance to use English and study something new. Learn about drawing, yoga, resume writing and job interview skills, hip-hop, New York City fashion and more. |
